I still have a near heart attack when I see this. What an incredible recovery. I don’t know any other horse who could do that. Should have won the TC.

Afleet Alex was definitely one of those horses that should have been a TC winner. He was so unlucky in the derby. He was without a doubt the best 3-year-old of that year.

Every year at Preakness time I watch this video. The last 40 seconds of this bring tears to my eyes–how much the best is he? I’ll never tire of watching him charge into the final turn, picking them up and laying them down. Best Preakness I can remember seeing, and Afleet Alex is the best triple crown contender of the past ten years. Wish it had been his, an amazing horse.

I remember watching this race. Gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. He is without a doubt one of the greatest racehorses of the decade. He deserved to win the Triple Crown so much.

Amen Brother!! I’ve been saying that for years. His backstretch move was a sub 8 second furlong. Unheard of since Phar Lap. His last furlong was faster than Secretariats and Easy Goers 89 BC

Those splits should tell you how GREAT Alex was. …….. then you see him BLAST the field in the Belmont
