Harness Horse Racing Accident 2008 Jason Bartlett Yonkers
Yonkers, NY — Jason Bartlett, leading driver at Yonkers Raceway, was injured in a second race accident on Friday night. Bartlett, driving Hurricane Mike, was unseated when the sulky broke passing the quarter-mile pole, and was subsequently run over by trailing horses and sulkies. He suffered an injury to his right leg, and was taken to Lawrence Hospital in nearby Bronxville, NY for tests and further evaluation. No further information was available as of this writing. The 27-year-old Bartlett, a native of Augusta, Maine, won his 2000th career race earlier this season. Overall in 2008, he has won 241 races and more than $2 million in purses, with 178 victories and more than $1.6 million in purses coming here. He won the evening’s first race with the favored Your Not Funny.

In regards to the winner Brickyard Tom, I’ve never seen a gray standardbred before. A first for me.

You may try contacting a trainer by mail and see if they will sponsor you to travel here and work for them. Use the contacts you have in Brazil to see if they can write a letter of introduction. Good luck to you!

my name is chris heeney and im the grandson of ken heeney who if you know harness racing you know who he is. He died in a spill in 1986 at foxboro raceway. Your right they are way underpaid. I jogged for the first time at 9 and trained first time at 14. i wanted more then anything to be a driver but the insurance isint there and the pay isint enough. I didnt wanna end up widdowing a family like he did. I was 3 when he died. i wish i knew the man.

This video goes to show that harness drivers are worth so much more money than they are making. If the TOP harness driver in the sport earns $15 million in purses… that equates to $750,000/year. Compare that to the TOP baseball player or basketball player making $25 million/year. Then, take into consideration the “danger” factor and ask yourself, “Which athletes have it more difficult?” Other than bull fighting, harness drivers are the most deserving and least paid! Most unfortunate.

I cannot believe the race was not stopped. There was an ambulance on the inside of the track, or possibly even on it, and a horse going the opposite direction with no driver to control it. If it had crashed into any others in the home straight, there would have been a bigger incident than the one that occurred over the bcak. Not stopping the race was plain stupid. I would sack the stewrads panel at that meeting and get some that have a duty of care towards safety.

Well, I’m guessing that the race is too far gone to be recalled. Though the California rule would apply here.

I know it’s not a Jerald, if it were built like a Jerald it wouldn’t have collapsed. Something probably did happen to it the night before, but this isn’t the first Advantedge that has broke on a driver, they have a history of this. You would jump too if you had sharp bike parts hitting your legs. Shouldn’t have to send your bike away everytime something happens.

well itss not a jerald bike lol. itss an advantedge bike lol the night before something happened to the bike nd he never checkedd itt . the horsee didntt jump till hee fell threww….

I know that some of these new bikes have had a few problems like this. Back in the 80′s Nassau, Pennsbury, and aluminum Brodeur sulkies would sometimes break and dump the driver. I never had any problem with my Jerald bike and have never seen one collapse.

Looks like broken equipment on #3 and the #1 had no where to go. Can only hope everyone’s ok!

I just do not understand why judges let race go on with drivers down and horses running loose.
