She ran the race of her life….RIP….So sad
She was all heart chasing that roid rager Big Brown. Don’t think Brown was juiced to the max? Off the stuff he ran dead last. To bad she paid for the cheating of others.

I admire Larry Jones and his wife. He speaks so lovingly about EIGHT BELLES. You know she was (is) loved. I miss her still. I have a picture of her on my desk at work. It was taken the night before the Derby with such beautiful lights in the background. Rest in peace beautiful filly. XO always.

Eight Belles will be always be remembered with heartfelt memories.

horses have to hold up so much weight. having two broken legs almost makes it impossible and unbearable for the horse to go through. so it is the only humane thing to do unfortunately.
June 16th, 2010 at 5:17 am
One Word, LAMINITIS, when a horse breaks a leg and weight is not evenly distibutes this disease of the hoof happens, there is no cure yet, so it is more mercifull to euthanize them than put them through hell, look at the famous Barbaro and what he endured only to be brought down by Laminitis…sigh…so sad…..
June 16th, 2010 at 6:04 am
they put her down because she obvious couldnt walk to get into the trailer and they love their horses in the racing buisness they gave Barbaro a chance and if Eight Belles cld have gotten into the trailer she would have had a chance but she wuz suffering so best to have ended tht 4 her

Fuck you.
June 16th, 2010 at 7:19 am
I wish more people would see this and see what an amazing person he is.
This is how the racing industry mostly is. People care and love thier horses…
RIP eight belles,
and god bless you, larry.

It is truly sad about what happened to Eight Belles, and she will be forever missed. It’s also sad that Larry Jones is retiring next year, he’s such a great role model, and a wonderful person!!

PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS!!! In 1994 a boy named jack went out to go for a walk. But ended up getting hit by a car. IF U DO NOT POST THIS TO 3 VIDEOS IN UNDER 30 MINS~!!!!! he will drive the same car into u. sorry i just don’t want this to happen to me.
June 16th, 2010 at 8:35 am
And, Larry Jones loved Eight Belles, if he thought she had an honest, good chance of ever walking again soundly, he would have gone that way, I guarantee it.

Horses’ bones are not like humans, they don’t heal as well. Plus Eight Belles had two compound fractures in her front ankles, the bones had snapped and gone through the skin, even with medication, she would not be able to stand up and even if her ankles were fixed the chances of her ever being able to even walk again were slim, the best option was to put her out of the most certain terrible pain she was already in.
June 16th, 2010 at 9:29 am
I’m sorry, i don’t know about horses but i have to ask this.
Why can’t they just give drugs for the pain and then fix it? Why the horse must die?
Is it because she won’t be able to run at that level again and that’s bad buisness?
Is it for the recovery cost? Why they kill them?

When Larry hugged his jockey in response to the news that immediately showed me what a caring person he is. I wish him the best and hope to see his horses running in the future.

Every time I see this video I have to ring my heart out. She really struck a soft spot for me. I was in the grandstand when she ran at the fairgrounds and she really is an amazing fillie. RIP Eight Belles

I sent Larry a card about a month after the derby, I felt so awful for him. :>(

So? Sarah Palin looks too young to be a grandmother. It’s still possible.
June 16th, 2010 at 1:09 pm
larry jones looks 2 young 2 be a grandpa
June 16th, 2010 at 1:27 pm
Larry Jones is my grandfather and he isn’t really retiring.
He has decided to cut back the stables, and his workload, by quite a bit.
We really appreciate all of the sweet comments and the fans!
Without people so kind and supporting, I’m not sure if he would have been able to make it through the tragedy.
This game can be the greatest or the worst, and support from people who understand is such a blessing.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the wonderful video on Larry Jones and Eight Belles!!!
I am sorry that Larry will retire from horse racing because he is a great trainer and a caring man that the horses and the industry will miss. I hope that he changes his mind.
God bless Larry and Cindy Jones, Rick Porter, all of Eight Belles connections, and God bless Eight Belles!!! She will never be forgotten, this courgeous and winning filly!

I love Larry and I’m so sad that he’s retiring. I met him at Mountaineer on WV Derby day and he’s one of the nicest people in racing. I can’t believe the events of this year have forced him out of racing
