Question by DC: is there such thing as “loose slot machines” in Vegas for example? or this is just nothing more than rumor?
I heard someone say the slot machines located near the entrance door tend to be loose, and players have better chance on winnings? what is your take on this idea of loose machines at your favorite casino?

Machines next to any door or any walkway will be tight than anything. They expect people to drop money in here and there as they walk by or right as they enter the casino. I am not exactly sure where the loose machines are, but I have heard about it.

This refers to machines that pay out at a high percentage. When you enter a casino look above the slot machines and see what the pay out rate is most will be around 90 to 98 percent that means that for every dollar played over a long period of time the machine will pay out 98 cents or whatever the percent says, the higher the percent than the loser the machine is.

They are normally near the entrance and near the bathroom area. Its normally in the areas that you think it wont win much.
Slots in high-traffic areas where passersby can see a lot of slots players winning often. Also, don’t play next to a winning machine.
The wheel of fortune slots and the 15x a day slots are easier to win.

Since it is a Random Number Generator that determines if that spin wins or not…it’s hard to really say if a machine is loose or tight. I think a more accurate definition for a “loose” machine is how often it hits. The machines are usually put into two simple categories…. 1. hits often but for small amounts or 2. hits not so often but for big amounts.
trick is being in the right spot at the right time.
And remember…if the sign says it pays back 98%, that 98% is over the entire life span of the machines in that bank of machines. So, don’t be dissappointed if you drop a 100 dollar bill in it and don’t leave with your 98 bucks. lol

Every casino is different as to where they put the higher payback machines and only the slot manager knows the answer. It also can change on a whim as casinos are usually in constant flux and machines get moved around all the time.
Some slot managers believe the best place to put the better machines is in the high traffic areas because if others see people winning, they will gamble in that casino.
Another school of thought is to put them in the least trafficed areas to draw people to those areas when they hear winning. They dont make a lot of noise for nothing!
The answer is… you will never have any idea of what the payback percentage is set to on the slot you are playing. This is one of the reasons why people like Video Poker since the payback is listed right on the machine in the paytable.

You have to understand a few things they say about slots. When they put a sign on a group of machines that says payback 98%. that is 98% of your money over the LIFE of the machine, not 98% of your play right then. Plus the casinos, by law have to pay back a certain %, otherwise they get fined. They may on occation, set up a machine, but I myself wouldn’t hold my breath, I’ ll stick to the dice,lol

There is no such thing as a loose slot machine. Slots are simply random number generators. On an spin, you are as likely to win or lose as on any other spin. What happened the spin before has nothing to do with the next spin. So, if there have been 50 losing spins in a row. The next spin is no more likely to be a winning spin than the first spin was.
There was a time when what you said was true, but those days are long gone with the advent of computers.

there is no such thing as a loose slot or a hot or cold machine. slot machines are just random number generators and the probability means that sooner or later a machine will hit a certain combination and pay off. the idea that a machine is hot or cold or loose is a misnomer.

I have found through personal experience that there are often “looser” slots near the entrances, near the player’s club booths and near any cashier. I try to pick a slot facing the entrance and I often come out ahead.

Some slots are looser than others, as each can be set for a set “hold”. What most people don’t know is that a bank of slot machines can be considered a single machine for the purposes of the gaming control board (who review the payout percentage to insure fairness). Those who know that also knows that the casino often employs shills to feed the “loose” machine in the bank.
The trouble is, unless you have a contact who works in either MIS or high up in slot / casino management, you’ll never know which machines have the highest payout. The lowest paid people with access to that information are the computer operators, and they will lose their jobs in a second if they leaked that data.

Slots near the door will be the loosest because they want people passing by to hear them paying out. Overall, however, slot machines are the biggest rip-off in gaming. That’s why every casino has 20 of them for every one of any gaming table.

The slots by entrances tend to be louder than slots within the casino, that to attract people. The truth is when the RNG adds up, then the machine will pay off, no matter where the machine is located. I have had luck in casinos with loose machines and I have had luck in casinos where the machines aren’t as loose. You may want to get a magazine called Strictly Slots, it’s very helpful in understanding the ins/outs of slots.
