After winning a maiden race at Saratoga in his second start, Easy Goer went on to victories in the Cowdin and Champagne. He was named Champion 2-year-old of 1988. Easy Goer won his first three races at 3 and in the Gotham narrowly missed breaking Dr. Fager’s world record for the mile. Easy Goer’s second season was marked by his rivalry with Sunday Silence who defeated him in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Easy Goer then came back in the Belmont Stakes to defeat Sunday Silence by eight lengths in 2 minutes 26 seconds, a time second only to Secretariat’s record of 2:24. Easy Goer’s 3-year-old season also included victories in the Travers and in the Whitney, Woodward, and Jockey Club Gold Cup where he defeated older horses.
