Folding Poker Table – Features, Types, Options

With all the variations and styles available, which should you choose? This article helps you get the most bang for your buck, and choosing a folding poker table that is right for you. Since there are so many searches on the search engines every month, there is no shortage of products in different versions being sold. Which one you pick depends on what you need with respect to your room size, what you can spend, and your players.

Basically, you can break poker tables into four types. Poker table tops, fold up poker tables, folding legs poker tables, and furniture poker tables. Three of these are able to be folded, while the furniture tables are permanent like a billiard table, and cost much more.

Because they are legless and weigh less, Poker Table Tops cost much less. When you only have a small room and cannot use a table, these can be unfolded and used on your dining table. No extra chairs needed. The sizes, shapes, and quality of these tops varies depending on what you want to pay. The best, or premium models, are made of solid wood with padding under a relatively high quality felt, giving them a more authentic “muffled” sound when the poker chips hit the pot. You can usually find them to also have a padded armrest. While the premium table tops generally run in the low 100 dollar range with shipping, the lowest priced tops start in the 40 to 50 dollar range. They are generally made of a foam material, and do not have armrests. They do tend to have very colorful casino type designs including blackjack, craps, or roulette, in addition to poker. If your game travels to different locations, their light weight makes them ideal. Some other features often seen on these are poker chip trays at each player position, and cup holders for your favorite beverage.

Fold Up Poker Tables are the next price range up. These can be delivered for about the 160 to 250 dollars ranges. With the same top of the line features like padding under the felt, arm rests, and cupholders, and the plywood base, the top bi-folds to store them easily. The primary advantage of the bi-folding top is the reduced shipping cost since it folds into about half the size of the folding leg tables. As the weight and size goes up, the cost of shipping does too. Additionally they can be delivered using standard delivery companies as opposed to expensive freight company. The other advantage is they can be stored away in a smaller space like a closet. One issue is where the the 2 tops meet when you unfold it. You have to be sure to throw the cards over the crevice during dealing so they don’t catch and flip over. While this is not much of a concern to me, I have been told by some that they would rather pay more to get a solid top than have the fold.

Folding Leg Poker Tables solve the problem. The wood top is one solid piece for a long, smooth playing surface with no obstructions. Since this causes the delivery cost to increase, they can price at up to 400 dollars. They can’t really be put in a closet due to their size, but the legs can be folded underneath them so they can leaned on a wall out of the way.

Shapes & Sizes: Folding poker tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on your need. For smaller rooms like in an apartment or kitchen, you can use a 48 inch octagon table. They tout that they can seat up to 8 players, but they will not be very comfortable since you will be sitting elbow to elbow. Six players would be about the most I would have. The long oval tables range from 73″ to 96″ long and seat 8 and 10 players respectively, and more comfortably. But consider whether you really have the room to set one of these up, since you are looking at 7 and 8 foot tables, and 3-1/2 to 4 feet wide. Plus you need to have chairs for each of your players.

I sincerely hope this has helped you to find the perfect folding poker table for your game. Nothing beats playing your game on one of these, unless of course you go to the casino.
